Realm of the Dominion
A downloadable game for Windows
Hello!
My name is Chris and I am learning the Godot engine and GDScript from scratch. I've spent the last few years "developing"(mostly configuring, finding bugs and learning to read the Lua language) on various Fivem servers and learning to understand Lua scripting. I find GDScript the most pleasant comparison and am learning through various avenues the language and engine. I find the best way I'm going to succeed at this is by building a game.
You can join my discord to keep up with any other updates I put out that might not reach here and discuss the game and ideas/suggestions with the community:
I've always loved the idea of building a game of my own but never had the self confidence that I could pull it off. At some point it clicked for me during my Fivem development days that if I was able to understand how Lua was used to create modifications for these servers, I could probably learn other languages. That lead me down multiple roads finally landing me here attempting to build this game from the ground up.
Realm of the Dominion is a 3D Multiplayer Third Person Roleplay Shooter game inspired by the MMORPG Face of Mankind. I like to call it an MMO in your pocket.
Current stage is: Very Early Prototype
I will be taking you along on my development journey as best I can here. I will be releasing new versions of the game starting from a simple player controller straight toward the end of development of the game to allow players to experience the different systems I am prototyping for game play from inventory to weather and seasonal systems to magic and crafting.
The story is very rough concept at the moment and so I will not be releasing that concept until I have a better idea of where I want to take the prototype if I intend to have one at all or instead just build in lore and allow players to make their own stories in their multiplayer servers through roleplay.
The multiplayer experience will be something along the lines of a FiveM roleplay server where there will be a dedicated server hosted by a community owner and players can join that community and grow their character there. I believe that dedicated servers allow for the best PVP capable experience as opposed to a peer to peer network. The server handles the authority to prevent cheating and it's always running to allow players to more or less "live" in what feels like a "living and breathing" world where the seasons are constantly moving along, the actions of players have left their long term effects on the world and the dynamics of the gameplay are ever changing based on player actions.
Also, since these servers will be hosted by your own communities, the server owners will be able to set their own gameplay rules to determine how roleplay focused or how pvp focused they want their server to be. My goal is to provide the mechanical tools for gameplay and let the players run wild. These mechanics and tools will expand based on player feedback to support server management and overall a quality gameplay experience.
On top of all of this, dedicated servers means you don't need to worry about the game ever shutting down. Your gaming experience will pretty much go on forever as long as a community or you yourself keep hosting a server.
The setting is a dystopian sci fi future.
The tone of the game is of a serious nature with corporations vying for power and an oppressive government pushing the limits of it’s access to maintain full control of the population.
The Gameplay will be more or less entirely inspired by the 2005 MMORPG Face of Mankind. This was my first online roleplaying experience and I’ve been chasing that high ever since I experienced it. This is, in essence, a re-imagining of Face of Mankind
The Communication will MOST LIKELY be handled via text chat and chat bubbles over players’ heads. I personally believe this creates the most roleplay friendly environment in a game like this. BUT it is possible I will change this to voice communication down the road, similar to the FiveM experience.
The game download is and will remain at $5 throughout most of development. There is the possibility it will increase depending on the level of depth I reach in this game, but it will remain at an indie developer price range.
Why would you spend money on this game?
Purchasing the game now will give you access to my latest development builds. This will mostly consist of the ability to try out mechanics as they are added as well as immediate access when the first combat capable world comes to fruition alongside combat itself among the many other facets such as mining and producing all of the items in the world. Purchasing now of course guarantees access to the complete game. I also intend to provide a steam version at launch that you will get access to as well when purchasing a key from here. Anyone who purchased a key before steam release will also get access to a steam key once it releases
Buying now is a show of support toward my development. I'm a simple man, seeing other people get excited about what I'm doing helps me stay excited about what I'm doing. I do game development as a side project to a full time job and family time, so I will do my best to provide weekly devlogs with a new game update alongside them, but I cant promise this every week as a guarantee, I'm darn sure gonna try though.
You will also get a fancy supporter role in my discord which may get more than bragging rights down the road if I can think of something worthwhile.
